Farmer's Keep

Farmer’s Keep is a rustic, farm to table, fast-casual dining experience located on 20th and Ludlow. The restaurant changes its menu every two weeks to reflect the season’s freshest ingredients. In keeping with his core values, owner Josh Bullock’s vision for the décor came from the atmosphere of the community surrounding it. When asked about his inspiration for the aesthetic of the restaurant, he replied, “We are this small, one story building surrounded by high rises. We're the ‘farm’ in the middle of the city. Lots of wood, with barn red and white colors, fresh plants, rustic chalkboards. We change our menu to reflect what is truly most in season, and I wanted to show this through our decor.”

The health-conscious and allergen-free menu options make it easy for everyone to choose a favorite. While it lasts, I recommend the chili cocoa rubbed brisket as a main course with a heaping spoonful of maple sweet potatoes on the side. It’s the ultimate take on comfort food since the brisket melts in your mouth from slow cooking for 16 hours. Meals are served platter-style, offering the choice to weigh your plate at $10/lb. This is where the money savings begin! (Tip: Make sure your eyes aren’t bigger than your stomach, or you’re likely to go over the $10 minimum.)

The beauty of Farmer’s Keep is its owner’s mission to use food as a medium to make people happier and healthier. After leaving corporate America, Josh followed his dream of opening his own restaurant in the city he was born and raised. He realized Philadelphia’s food scene lacked a true farm-to-fresh restaurant that was more than just salads and sandwiches. His platters are hearty and healthy, always using locally grown, fresh ingredients to cater to six of the largest food allergies in the world. “One of the things I love about food is that it brings people together for truly meaningful, intimate moments,” he said. Josh’s story exudes a beauty based upon fresh ingredients all the while supporting local farms and creating a simpler way of life in the midst of a hustling and bustling city.
